Moving is an exciting and stressful time. Whether you’re moving for a new job opportunity, to be nearer to friends and family, or merely to trade up in northern Minnesota, there are so many options and details to consider.

Here are some extra tips for packing:

1. Be careful using newspaper, the ink could stain your items.

2. Fill containers to capacity or fill extra pockets of space with packing material.

3. Leave space to reach the back of the unit and put frequently used items near the front.

4. Clean, drain and dry appliances before storing.

5. Leave refrigerator or freezer doors open

6. Store light chairs inverted, seat to seat.

7. Stand sofa and mattresses on end on a pallet or plastic sheet.

8. Metal objects, like tools and bikes, should be wiped with a rag containing machine oil to resist rust.

1.  Create aisles with box labels facing out.
2. For safety purposes, don’t stack boxes too high.  Put heavy boxes on the bottom, lighter boxes on top.  
3.  Anything that is sensitive to moisture should be placed on a pallet.
4.  Make sure the lock on your unit is sturdy and locked.
5.  Read your lease agreement for payment terms and what you can’t store at this location.
